Ancient Hindu scriptures indicate this lake as a must visit place for someone who wants to attain salvation - the highest level of achievement in Hindu religion.

Raksas Lake

Raksas tal is the lake where Ravana is said to have done penance to invoke Lord Shiva. Locals say that the water from this lake should never be drunk. It is located west of Lake Mansarovar. At an elevation of 4540m., Raksas tal is 15m below of Lake Mansarovar.

Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS):
AMS or Altitude Sickness is a very common illness among the travelers in high Himalayas. It is caused due to the lack of oxygen at high altitudes and is characterized by discomfort, extreme fatigue, headache, loss of appetite, nausea, insomnia (sleeplessness) and shortness of breath. The symptoms may fade after a couple of days. If they don't, the patient needs to be immediately brought down to a lower altitude. The illness may become fatal if not rescued immediately. That is why, a two nights stay at Nyalam (or one night stay at Simikot for those taking a helicopter ride) is compulsory during the trek and tour.

Drinking plenty of water or tea/coffee, walking slowly, carrying a light pack, staying calm and avoiding alcohol, smoking and extreme exercises are highly recommended to prevent the illness. If necessary the diamox tablets are to be taken. In case of emergency, Gamow bag can save the life till help arrives. You will be provided one by our company.
