To the north of Langtang valley and to the southwest of Shishapangma (8027m) there lies the highest peak of Langtang Valley, Mount Langtang Lirung. It is the subsidiary range of the Nepalese Himalayas which stretches to southwest of mount Shishapangma 8035m. It is the highest summit of Langtang Himalayan range which forms its east portion, the mountains including Jugal Himal that is between the Sun Koshi Valley in the east and Trisuli Gandaki Valley in the west. Langtang Lirung is notable for its large vertical massif of 5500m but it's not too high. It's in only 16 km's elongation above Trisuli Gandaki and to the west. Its large south face poses a great challenge to the mountaineers. It was successfully ascended in 1978 via East Ridge making four camps to the approach. Most of the previous teams have ascended this peak via southeast or Southwest Ridge routes. This mountain is just face to face, to Kathmandu valley.
