The first expedition to the north face of Mount Manaslu (8163m.) was led by a Japanese team in 1953. As per Sanskrit language, the name of this mountain means Intellect or Soul, similar to that of holy Lake Manasarovar nearby holy Mount Kailash. As the British considered Everest their mountain, the Japanese regard Manaslu as their mountain since the mountain was conquered by them for the first time. Manaslu was photographed during a trek by HW Tillman and Jimmy Roberts in 1950. Nevertheless, it was a Japanese expedition in 1952 that surveyed the peak for the first time. From Budi Gandaki valley, a Japanese team made the first serious attempt on its peak in 1953. Another team followed in 1954, but the villagers of Sama Gaon (Village) refused to let them climb the mountain because they claimed the first team was responsible for an avalanche that destroyed a monastery, which is why they chose Ganesh Himal instead of Mount Manaslu. The atmosphere was still filled with animosity and mistrust despite a large donation to rebuild the monastery. The second successful Japanese expedition was in 1971, and there was a South Korean attempt as well. He made the fourth ascent of Mount Manaslu as a member of a Tyrolean expedition that climbed from the Marshyangdi valley in 1972, when an avalanche killed five climbers and 10 Sherpa. Many foreigners are eager to conquer Mount Manaslu (8163m), one of the most popular and beautiful mountains in the world.
